A Legacy of Leadership
The Faculty of Business Studies holds a prestigious position as Bangladesh's foremost centre of business education — a pioneer that has shaped the academic and professional landscape of the nation.
What began in 1970 as the Faculty of Commerce, with two departments and a handful of pioneering scholars, has grown into a vibrant faculty of nine departments, more than 150 distinguished faculty members, and over six thousand students.
Across five decades, FBS has done more than teach business — it has helped write the story of business in Bangladesh. Its graduates lead corporations, shape policy, found ventures, and carry the faculty's name into boardrooms across the country and beyond.
From Commerce to Business Studies
From a single Department of Commerce under the Faculty of Arts to a faculty of nine departments — a\njourney of growth, reinvention, and enduring purpose.
1970
Commerce, first taught within the Faculty of Arts in 1922–23, emerges as an independent Faculty with two departments — Management and Accounting.
1974
The departments of Marketing and Finance are created, broadening the faculty's academic reach across the business disciplines.
1977
A structured semester system is introduced, modernising the academic calendar and method of study.
1995
B.Com and M.Com give way to BBA and MBA, and the Faculty of Commerce takes its current name — a strategic shift towards a globally integrated business education.
2004
Banking and Insurance and Management Information Systems are added to the faculty's growing family of departments.
2007
Tourism & Hospitality, International Business, and Organization Strategy & Leadership complete the faculty's nine-department structure.
